Class Descriptions

Classes offered in Running Springs, Rimforest and Lake Gregory

CONTEMPORARY​-LYRICAL

This multi-level Contemporary/Lyrical dance program allows students the opportunity to explore and develop their individual dance style utilizing ballet and jazz dance fundamentals set to contemporary music. Students will also be introduced to lyrical dance and they will learn how interpret music, tell a story and express emotion through movement. Each class begins with a comprehensive warm-up then students will be introduced to new or practice previously learned center floor skills (turns, jumps, combinations, etc.), across the floor combinations and progressions (kicks, leaps, turns, etc.). The class ends with fun combinations that are eventually incorporated into longer-length dance routines. This class focuses on centering, strengthening the body, increasing flexibility, improving balance, proper placement, body alignment, fluidity and emotion.

Pre-Ballet, Ballet I & Ballet II

Pre-ballet students will be introduced to Ballet and creative dance through self-expression, imagination and basic movement/coordination activities. As skill level and age progresses, there will be an increased emphasis on basic Ballet fundamentals and vocabulary while continuing to foster their creativity and maintain interest through games, miming and other dance activities. Intermediate and advanced-beginner students will learn more challenging steps and combinations with a focus on proper turn-out, body alignment, etiquette and terminology through increasingly more structured classes (Ballet I & II). All classes include stretch & warm up, barre work (positions, steps, combinations and exercises), center and across-the-floor combinations that include turns, jumps and leaps. Program assists students with grace, coordination and musicality.

Tumbling & Apparatus,

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Acrobatic Dance

Tumbling focuses on floor skills which includes a variety of rolls, cartwheels, round offs, walkovers, head and handsprings as well as other pre-vaulting and power tumbling techniques.

 

Apparatus focuses on apparatus (single, uneven or parallel bar, mini-rings, mini-trampoline or balance beam skills, etc.) technique instruction based on skill and age level.

 

Rhythmic focuses on combining floor skills with the use of props (ribbons, hoops, ball). Includes choreographed small and large group routines that feature a combination of ribbon and floor skills. All skill levels welcome.

 

Acrobatic Dance focuses on choreography that combines tumbling skills (including balances, holds and lifts) with dance techniques (jazz, contemporary, lyrical). Fun and creative routines make this high-energy class a popular choice. All skill levels welcome and will be divided into groups according to age/skill level. Previous or concurrent dance and gymnastics experience strongly recommended.

 

Open Gym allows students to practice their previously learned skills in a cost-effective, open-gym environment. Coaches are present to ensure safety of participants; however, no spotting or instruction will be provided. Concurrent or previous gymnastics experience required.

Tap/Jazz

Tap students will learn and improve basic movements and tap steps, (i.e. shuffles, flaps, taps, digs, drops, chugs, stomps, ball-changes, simple time steps). Students will also learn traveling steps and fun combinations. Advanced students focus on rhythm technique and learn more challenging steps and combinations. Tap dance helps your child improve rhythm, coordination, musicality and timing skills. Jazz students will learn basic steps (based on ballet technique) including turns, kicks, and leaps. Class includes skill/age appropriate warm-up/stretch, center and various across-the-floor progressions and combinations. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz and tap dance through fun and engaging routines.
